Simulations to improve real-world Performance
SIMULIA’s Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation offerings allow our customers to engineer products ensuring accurate real world performance predictions with fast turnaround speeds.
SIMULIA Fluids Simulation is driven by three complimentary technologies that provide customers with scalable fluids simulation to address a broad range of real world applications. PowerFLOW and XFlow offer world class Lattice Boltzmann (LBM) for high fidelity simulations that accurately predict real world performance. Fluid Dynamics Engineer enables multi-scale multi-physical vision by embedding CFD into design, simulation, optimization, data management, and business intelligence applications within the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. In addition, a Plastics Injection Molding application allows validation and optimization of plastic part and mold tooling designs early in the product development process.
PowerFLOW
PowerFLOW is used to perform aerodynamic, aeroacoustics and thermal management simulations accurately and efficiently with highest fidelity on fully complex model geometry by leveraging unique, inherently transient Lattice Boltzmann-based physics.

XFlow
XFlow solves complex fluids problems, with technology excelling in areas such as: Powertrain Lubrication, Equipment Fluid Performance, E-Drive, Vehicle Performance in Adverse Conditions, Tank Sloshing, Fluid Structure Interaction, UAV Maneuvers, Ship Performance.
The state-of-the-art technology of XFlow enables users to address complex CFD workflows involving high frequency transient simulations with real moving geometries, complex multiphase flows, free surface flows and fluid-structure interactions.
Its automatic lattice generation and adaptive refinement capabilities minimize user inputs thereby reducing time and effort in the meshing and pre-processing phase. This enables engineers to focus the majority of their efforts on design iteration and optimization.
Fluid Dynamics on 3DEXPERIENCE
The Fluid Dynamics Engineer Role on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform is a CAD & PLM-embedded CFD approach to drive improved product performance based on design criteria such as optimal flow distribution, efficient energy management, minimal pressure losses, flow uniformity, and reduced recirculation.
The Fluids discipline covers steady-state and transient internal and external flow around and through solids and structures using Computational Fluid Dynamics technology. A fully-featured Navier-Stokes solver is used for native roles on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. Internal and external fluid domain models can be developed directly from the CATIA or SOLIDWORKS design geometry providing an integrated modeling & simulation capability. On the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, fluid simulation methods can be defined, stored, replayed, and maintained allowing customers to develop and centralize on their own best-practices to increase quality, reliability, and efficiency of structural validation.
Plastic Injection Molding
Plastics Injection Molding is used to validate and optimize plastic part and mold tooling designs by simulating filling, packing, warpage & mold cooling early in the product development process.
The Plastic Injection Engineer role allows you to:
- Virtually test the performance of plastic part and mold tooling designs with an intuitive, guided simulation assistant that minimizes the learning curve
- Cover the needs for all industries, all key workflows, and all user personas with a single role
- Predict common molding defects including: weld-lines, sink marks, air traps, and incomplete filling (short shots)
- Evaluate the effectiveness of mold cooling system designs
- Apply advanced structural capabilities available in the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform, such as non-linear multi-scale material modeling, directly on a common model
- Leverage process automation, design of experiments, and advanced optimization tools available in the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform
